Welcome to the Vivid Occasions Blog! Where you can find inspiration from real weddings, advice from our team and more!
Monica and Matt grew up across the pond from each other, one American and one British, but fate brought them together in exotic Madagascar.
Their cute meeting happened on the beach where Matt told Monica that he can dig a hole big enough for her and that was the start for them. Years later it is fitting that two of them would say “I do” overlooking the beach during a destination wedding at JW Marriott Los Cabos. We were absolutely thrilled to be part of the official start to their lifelong adventure together.
While we wish that every destination wedding story we share is without any bumps in the road, that simply cannot be the case because not all circumstances are in our control. Life has a way of throwing the unexpected at us and this occasion was one of those times! This is why we take our role as Cabo destination wedding planners so seriously – we know that we have a tremendous responsibility to help couples overcome any mishap that shows up.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t smooth sailing for this wonderful couple. Months into planning their wedding, COVID-19 happened and they ran into issue after issue with their US stateside wedding plans – from venue snafus to travel and health restrictions. In the end, to accommodate their traveling family and create the fun, gorgeous atmosphere they wanted, Cabo quickly became the obvious choice and the JW Marriott Los Cabos was the venue selected.
The entire wedding was planned in a shocking 3 months. Yes, in three months, amid a pandemic, we worked closely with Monica and Matt to pull off the wedding they deserved all along, despite the hiccups this sweet couple had to endure.
One of those hiccups was category 2 Hurricane Olaf, which wreaked havoc on the resort the day before the wedding. Fortunately, the staff of the JW Marriott Los Cabos are fully experienced with hurricanes. Despite the region being hit with messy streets and a flooded town, the venue clean-up crew was able to make fast work of the devastation and the wedding pushed through as scheduled. Despite flooded homes and offices, Vivid Occasions and all wedding vendors showed up as planned and pulled together to make this event happen even in the face of a hurricane! This is the power of having the right superstar team on your side.
Monica tells the story of this adventure best:
”On our first call, I told Gaby “I don’t really think I am a wedding planner kind of person” but I have never been more wrong! Working with Cynthia, Gaby and the whole Vivid team was beyond anything I imagined. This was our third and final try to have a wedding, after multiple postponements and cancellations. The team guided us to get the wedding planned in less than 3 months. And then, the day before our wedding, category 2 Hurricane Olaf hit San Jose del Cabo, and I thought it was all over. But Cynthia reassured us that she had everything in hand, and the next day by 6pm we hosted the wedding we were waiting all these years to have. I honestly can’t believe how perfect everything was. There is no way it would have been possible without Cynthia, Gaby and the Vivid team. I wish I could do it all again to work with such a confident, joyful, professional, and truly happy for you team. They really truly went above and beyond. NOT EVEN TO MENTION THE DECOR!!! Your search stops here – have you dream destination wedding in Los Cabos, and work with Vivid Occasions, you won’t regret it.”
We knew that it was important for the couple to celebrate their wedding with family and friends. We did everything in our power to make that vision happen in the most breathtaking, sentimental way possible. Despite the challenges, this wedding was truly a special gathering of loved ones.
The wedding itself was simple. The couple decided on a simple but modern theme. The couple chose natural earthy colors to compliment the resort’s aesthetic. As such, the whole event was subtle, romantic and elegant.
Monica never thought that a Marriott San Jose del Cabo wedding was possible due to pandemic travel restrictions. Being able to celebrate their union with their nearest and dearest was important to the couple and she was relieved it was able to happen as they dreamed. Happy atmosphere, good music and delicious food was the priority for their celebration.
The JW Marriott in Los Cabos was the perfect Cabo wedding venue for Monica and Matt’s start as a married couple. Both of them like to travel and have been on adventures together around the world. The happy occasion was captured on film by photographer Xime Zermeño.
The couple chose a destination wedding at JW Marriott Los Cabos not only due to proximity but also because of its world class amenities. The couple chose the Amet Patio, an area overlooking the Sea of Cortes to commemorate their meeting in Madagascar. This venue was the perfectly romantic setting to a simple and elegant wedding.
The wedding party enjoyed a delicious banquet provided by the hotel. The orchids, white roses and brown anthuriums gave the venue a boho-chic vibe. The wedding was perfectly time for the sunset to give the occasion a romantic but earthy feel. The couple danced and partied with their closest family and friends and everybody ended up enjoying the weekend celebrating with the happy couple.
Planning a wedding at JW Marriott Los Cabos in 3 months is not an easy feat. Thankfully, Monica and Matt, together with the venue, suppliers and our wedding planning, did not give up easily. Being able to stay positive despite hurdles is a good sign for times to come for our happy couple. If they can pull off their dream wedding amidst a pandemic and hurricane, there is nothing this new family won’t be able to accomplish together. We wish them the best in their new life together!
